Short-Review: Jodhaa Akbar

Jodhaa-Akbar is a magnum-opus, a trend-setting love story from acclaimed film-director Ashutosh Gowariker, who gave us Lagaan to cherish.

Starring the crowds favourite-pair Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, and set in the lavish Mughal surroundings; the film has been compared hastily to the epic saga Mughal-e-Azam. Although, time is a better judge on theses matters.

It deals with Mughal emperor Akbar's relationship with Rajput princess Jodhaa. This has raised few eyebrows from certain sections. Speaking about the film, Ashutosh said he did not, "focus completely on history,".

"It's the epic romance of Jodhaa and Akbar," Ashutosh explains.

So, A. R. Rahman has been brought in to spice up the musical feature of this offering, which has in return added much-needed publicity to the campaign.

Jodhaa Akbar is a story about a king falling in love with a princess and I have tried to keep the music contemporary so that it satisfies music lovers,” he says.

Publicity is one aspect which has dominated this movie. The 'Jodhaa-Akbar' team have ensured enough visibility, through traditional and new media. This might ensure immediate success, though, longevity of the film is questionable.
