IIFA 2007 | Yorkshire

An estimated 30,000 extra overseas visitors poured into Yorkshire for IIFA 2007.

The IIFA Weekend 2007 was jointly hosted by the five world-class cities of Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, York and Hull to come together for a celebration that had never been seen before.

Disney goes to Bollywood

Walt Disney is teaming up with a Bollywood film company to make animated movies using the voices of local stars.

The original animations, to be made in the Hindi language, will be "culturally relevant for the whole world", said Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook.

The first project, will be an animation featuring the voices of Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

Yash Raj Films will oversee each production using "an array of local talent", added Disney.

India at Festival de Cannes

India continued to make its mark at the Cannes film festival with Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan promoting his latest release `Cheeni Kum`, which was premiered there. Other eminent filmmakers present included, Mani Ratnam, Rituparno Ghosh and Raju Hirani, adding to the Indian presence.

"There is a huge interest for India now. I can say with confidence that Cannes is not just fun, but serious business." According to Ajay Khanna, the deputy director general of the Confederation of Indian Industry.

Films For Freedom India

The Campaign Against Censorship is an action platform of over 300 Indian documentary filmmakers who came together in August 2003 to protest the attempt by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to make censor certificates a mandatory precondition for Indian documentaries entered into the Mumbai International Film Festival.

In an unprecedented display of collective resistance filmmakers from across the country organized the Campaign Against Censorship, and were successful in forcing the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to drop its attempts to introduce censor certification for the festival.
